Folk Tui for Burkitt

The Frank Burkitt Band has won this year’s Best Folk Artist Tui.

The Scottish-born singer-songwriter’s four piece was honoured at the Auckland Folk Festival for their third album Raconteur, which was released back in March last year.

The Frank Burkitt Band – Burkitt, Kara Filbey, Cameron Burnell and James Geluk – is now gearing up for the release of a live EP Lost But Alive, which is set to be supported with shows in New Zealand, Glasgow and the UK.

New look for NZ Music Awards

Honouring the past, celebrating the present and looking forward to the future – those are the key themes for this year’s Vodafone NZ Music Awards.

The music industry’s premier awards event will once be held at Auckland’s Spark Arena on November 15 and this year will be hosted by pop icon Stan Walker and Three TV personality Kanoa Lloyd.

There will be a new look and feel for this year’s VNZMA, including a redesigned Tui statuette. According to Recorded Music NZ CEO Damian Vaughan, the changes planned for this year’s VNZMA’s marketed the next step in the evolution of the ceremony.

Jazz awards shortlist

A globe-trotting young bassist and a new configuration of Kiwi music veterans are among the nominees for this year’s top jazz prizes.

The Recorded Music NZ Best Jazz Artist and the APRA Best Jazz Composition awards will be presented on the opening night of the Wellington Jazz Festival on June 6.
