The penultimate round of the 2018 Outward Sound funding programme has seen grants to a diverse selection of New Zealand bands.

As well as rising pop stars such as Drax Project and Matthew Young, there is also support for the likes of hard rockers Devilskin, indie faves The Beths and Wax Chattels and country/folk icons Tiny Ruins and Marlon Williams.

Adults on road with Haja

Jon Toogood will showcase his new album with The Adults with three live shows in September.

Haja is released tomorrow (July 20) and is inspired by the Shihad man’s discovery of Aghani-Al-Banat, a style of Sudanese folk music performed exclusively by women.

New Adults album next month

Jon Toogood has confirmed a July 20 release for Haja, the second album from his side project The Adults.

The Shihad frontman has also shared a second song from the album ‘Boomtown’, which features Chelsea Jade and Raiza Biza.

Haja – a respectful term for an older, more experienced woman in Arabic – is heavily Middle Eastern influenced and will incorporate a recording Toogood made with an all-female group of musicians in Khartoum, Sudan.

Toogood reconvenes The Adults

Shihad frontman Jon Toogood’s side project The Adults returns with a new single ‘Bloodlines’, which also features rising stars Estère and JessB.

Released to coincide with New Zealand Music Month, the song is described as a “battlecry for love from a female perspective”.
