Davis takes on new role

Matthew Davis has been promoted to general manager of Flying Nun Records.

Davis, who was previously label manager, will take over the day to day operations of the iconic record company, succeeding Ben Howe, who remains a director and will act as a strategic adviser for the business. He will also continue overseeing Flying Out, the music retail, distribution, event and marketing company he co-founded with Howe in 2013.

One of the most rewarding things Flying Nun’s Ben Howe has found on his travels is when people enthuse about the label’s newer acts like Fazerdaze as well as the legendary bands of the past.

“It’s a nice feeling – people talking about our past and our present,” he says.

Of course, with a label as iconic as Flying Nun, the two are inseparable. But both he and general manager Matthew Davis reckon the record company has found the perfect balance.

Music stalwarts in Honours List

Entertainers John Rowles and the Topp Twins, plus Flying Nun founder Roger Shepherd and DJ/producer Sir-Vere are among the music luminaries to receive recognition in the Queen’s Bithday Honours List.

Legendary crooner Rowles, who was awarded an OBE in 1979 for his services to the music industry, received a knighthood, while Jools and Lynda Topp have been made Dames; all three were honored their services to entertainment.
