Joyous and uplifting, the new album from Jon Toogood’s side project The Adults shows how liberating it can be when a western artist seeks fresh inspiration in the sounds of Africa.
Jon Toogood will showcase his new album with The Adults with three live shows in September.
Haja is released tomorrow (July 20) and is inspired by the Shihad man’s discovery of Aghani-Al-Banat, a style of Sudanese folk music performed exclusively by women.
Jon Toogood has confirmed a July 20 release for Haja, the second album from his side project The Adults.
The Shihad frontman has also shared a second song from the album ‘Boomtown’, which features Chelsea Jade and Raiza Biza.
Haja – a respectful term for an older, more experienced woman in Arabic – is heavily Middle Eastern influenced and will incorporate a recording Toogood made with an all-female group of musicians in Khartoum, Sudan.
