Folk Tui for Burkitt

The Frank Burkitt Band has won this year’s Best Folk Artist Tui.

The Scottish-born singer-songwriter’s four piece was honoured at the Auckland Folk Festival for their third album Raconteur, which was released back in March last year.

The Frank Burkitt Band – Burkitt, Kara Filbey, Cameron Burnell and James Geluk – is now gearing up for the release of a live EP Lost But Alive, which is set to be supported with shows in New Zealand, Glasgow and the UK.

Three of popular Kiwi folk acts are joining forces next month for the quickfire Great New Zealand Folk Revival Tour.

The line-up is made up of Auckland’s Albi & The Wolves, winner of this year’s Tui for Best Folk Act, Wellington outfit the Frank Burkitt Band, which released its third album Raconteur earlier this yar, and theSlacks, who will be joined for this tour by their fellow Taranaki musician Ben Dixon.

Burkitt singing the songbook

The Frank Burkitt Band are keen to take their sound further afield following their first foray outside of New Zealand.

The band, which has just released their second LP Raconteur, crossed the Tasman earlier this year to perform at the Port Fairy and Blue Mountain festivals and that has whetted their appetite for overseas travel.
