New homegrown supergroup Congress of Animals – which features members of Flight Of The Conchords and Trinity Roots among others– are about to embark on their first ever tour.
The Strange Caravan Tour kicks off in November and will run through until the beginning of December.
Congress of Animals consists of Oscar winner Bret McKenzie, Age Pryor (Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra), Ben Lemi (Trinity Roots), Nigel Collins (Flight of the Conchords) and Justin Firefly (Fly My Pretties).
What started out as a series of casual jams between old friends has since blossomed over the last 18 months into a full musical partnership.
Age Pryor says: “Justin, Nigel and Bret were getting together to try out tunes, and I joined when I happened to be in Wellington. Justin and I had done the same thing before, in jams that became the Woolshed Sessions album.
“The multi-talented Ben Lemi was the last to join the group, and turned out to be the missing piece of the evolving jigsaw.”
Dates for The Strange Caravan Tour are: November 15: Blue Smoke, Christchurch; November 17-18: Sherwood, Queenstown; November 23: Haumoana Hall, Hawke’s Bay; November 24: Meow, Wellington; November 29: Totara St, Tauranga; November 30: Hollywood Cinema Auckland; December 1: Sawmill Café, Leigh.
