Princess Chelsea has announced her first New Zealand dates in three years to promote her upcoming new album The Loneliest Girl.
The short tour will see retro electro-popster will play two dates in Auckland – The Hollywood, Avondale (October 26), and the Sawmill Café (October 27) – followed by Wellington’s San Fran (November 10) and Christchurch’s Blue Smoke (November 17).
“I’ve got some new band members, which is pretty cool,” she says. “And we have spent the last three months tightening our live set before touring the album.”
Princess Chelsea – aka Chelsea Nikkel– is currently on the final leg of world tour, which has include dates in UK, Europe and South Korea.
The Loneliest Girl, which will be released via Lil’ Chief Records on September 7, was recorded at her home studio over 2016 and 2017, with production assistance from labelmate Jonathan Bree (she also appears on his most recent album Sleepwalking).
Meanwhile, Princess Chelsea has just dropped a new single and video from the album.
On the surface, ‘Wasting Time’ pokes fun at people enjoying their lives together at coffee shops and bars, but she admits she is sometimes jealous of them.
“In this song I accuse them of wasting time but I’m not sure I really believe that,” she muses. “This is stuff I had to give up to pursue music and sometimes I wonder if it’s worth it. I guess this song is pretty bitchy; I’m working through my insecurities but trying to be funny about it, too!”
