First acts confirmed for The Others Way 2018

Flying Nun icons Bailterspace and Headless Chickens will join rising stars such as The Beths, Wax Chattels and Estère at The Others Way 2018  in Auckland next month.

Held this year on August 31, the 2018 edition of the annual indie extravaganza boasts an eclectic, generation-spanning line-up of local artists, who will perform across than 10 venues on and around Karangahape Road.

Headless Chickens, whose Stunt Clown won the classic album prize at this year’s Taite Music Awards, are reforming for a rare live show at The Others Way 2018, and they will be joined by another iconic Kiwi outfit Bailterspace, making their first NZ appearance in five years. Other blasts from the past comes in the shape of Superette, the 90s Flying Nun three-piece headed up by Jean-Paul Sartre Experience co-founder David Mulcahy, and Collision, the homegrown 70s funk outfit who featured on the recent Heed The Call compilation.

As usual, The Others Way will also feature appearances from some of the biggest names of the current indie scene. As well as The Beths – whose debut album Future Me Hates Me is released next month – the festival will allow acts such as Wax Chattels, Carb On Carb, Vincent H.L., Estère, Death and the Maiden and Hopetoun Brown to showcase their most recent releases.

In addition, this year’s event will feature a special showcase stage hosted by Australian indie label Chapter Music. A second artist announcement for The Others Way 2018 is expected next month.

The line-up so far is: Bailterspace, The Beths, Carb on Carb, Church & AP, Collision, COOL TAN, Dbldbl + Stay Foolish, Death and the Maiden, Die! Die! Die!, Estère, Girl Boss, The Goon Sax, Gregor, Guy Blackman, Hans Pucket, Headless Chickens, Hopetoun Brown, Imugi, Laura Jean, MEER, MELODOWNZ, Miss June, Mulholland, Soaked Oats, Superette, tei., Troy Kingi & The Galactic Chiropractors, Vincent H.L., Water, Wax Chattels.

The venue are: Anthology Lounge, Cross St Markets, Galatos, Neck of the Woods, Pitt St Sunday School, Samoa House, The Studio, The Thirsty Dog, Whammy, The Wine Cellar, The Vault.
