Birthday treats from Kody Nielson

in News by

The iconic St Kevin’s Arcade in Auckland will host a special pop-up event to celebrate the release of Birthday Suite, a new album of instrumentals from Kody Nielson.

The former Mint Chick man’s latest solo project is released digitally today, with the vinyl and CD editions – available via Flying Nun – arriving in stores tomorrow (May 11).

However, Friday will also see the opening of a one-off store in St Kevin’s Arcade in Karangahape Road, which will be the only place fans can buy a limited edition white vinyl edition of Birthday Suite. There will also be exclusive screenings of clips from the Birthday Suite movie, and if you can’t make it tomorrow, the pop-up store will also be open for business on Saturday.

Each song on the album represents a birthday for his friends and family, including his partner Bic Runga and his brother Ruban, who he is currently touring with as part of the latter’s Unknown Mortal Orchestra. The release itself is timed to coincide with Kody’s own birthday.
