Industry veteran Matthew J Ruys – aka Matty J – has shared the first single from his upcoming album Things Broken, Things Awoken.

‘People X People’ was recorded with his long-time friend and collaborator Strawpeople’s Mark Tierney and features guest appearances by Arrested Development’s SPEECH and Bilal’s Matt ‘Honeybee’ Little.

Ruys is based in Los Angeles but is veteran of the NZ music industry, having worked as a retail music buyer, songwriter/composer, producer, artist manager, label boss (his own label HiRUYS) and A&R exec (at Universal Music). However, Things Broken, Things Awoken will be his first album since 1995’s Deeper.

Release dates are still to be confirmed but the album is due next year, along with a new solo set from Tierney, whcih Ruys has also been working on.
